Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has lead the team to a 10-2 record,, making them currently the #1 seed in the AFC division. With Carr recently leading his 6th game winning drive in the 4th quarter or overtime this season in a 38-24 victory against the Buffalo Bills by completing 19 passes for 260 yards and 2 touchdown passes and earning the moniker “The Comeback Kid”, talks of Carr being MVP have significantly heated up over the past couple of weeks.
Derek Carr has received praise from current and former players around the league, legendary Packers quarterback Brett Favre has said that “Derek Carr is taking the proper steps to be great”. Saints quarterback Drew Brees thinks that Carr has the opportunity to be one of the best saying that “There’s no doubt he’s as talented as they come, He can make all the throws and he seems like a guy that loves football and loves to compete and he’s played very well in some high-pressure situations. I think he’s one of those guys that I look at and say, of all the young quarterbacks, he probably has the opportunity to be one of the best” Buffalo Bills star running back LeSean McCoy was very impressed with Derek Carr’s play after playing against him on Sunday, he was quoted saying “He’s impressive, I thought he was very accurate. He’s a good player. I like guys who come in there and compete. When the team needs them they show up, He was clutch today. I’ve got a lot of respect for him”
The stats don’t lie for Carr as he is having a terrific season, completing 65.5% of his passes for 3,375 yards and 24 touchdown passes to 5 interceptions. Most people didn’t expect Carr to have much success in the NFL, as he was the little brother of former #1 overall pick and former draft bust David Carr, but Carr has proven himself as a quarterback and with the help of receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, running back Latavius Murray, and potential Defensive Player of The Year Khalil Mack, he could bring Oakland back to the playoffs for the first time since 2002 and possibly bring back a Super Bowl to the Bay Area, Raiders fans can only hope that Carr leads the team into a new era of greatness.
