Looking for a way to get some exercise this winter? Not a fan of the freezing cold weather? Look no further than Providence RECenter! Located just yards down Marc Drive from FCHS, Providence offers a variety of indoor activities during the cold winter months. It features a swimming pool, racquetball courts, a fitness center, and many other spaces for recreational activities.
The 25 yard by 25 meter heated swimming pool consists of several lanes, two diving boards, and a wading area. It is wheelchair accessible, with a ramp leading into the main pool. There are changing rooms with lockers that give visitors a place to put their belongings. The RECenter also offers swimming and water aerobics classes when the pool is not open for free use. If you are looking to host a party or other social event, the pool area can be rented at an hourly rate. See the Providence website for specific rates, dates, and details.
There are three racquetball courts available for use at Providence. Court reservations must be made in advance before using these courts, and cost $6 per hour in addition to a reservation fee. Reservations can be made over the phone or in person at the RECenter.
The fitness center gives visitors a choice of free weights, Resistance Cybex equipment, and cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and more). Providence also offers a weight training class for teens aged 12 to 15 years old. The class focuses on proper weight lifting techniques as well as weight room etiquette. This class must be completed in order for teens this age to use the weight room unsupervised.
Beyond this, the RECenter is currently offering BODYPUMP and TRX Suspension Training classes to more experienced visitors. No matter what your experience level is, the Providence fitness center promotes a welcoming environment that will encourage everyone to improve.
Plan on being a frequent visitor? Fairfax County sells RECenter Leisure Fitness Passes that can be used at any Fairfax County RECenter. It provides unlimited access to facilities for the number of months it is purchased for, including access to the swimming pools, fitness facilities, locker rooms, saunas, spas, and more. There is, however, an additional fee for those who wish to access the racquetball and squash courts.
If you are looking for a way to get active or spend some time with some friends indoors this winter, consider paying a visit to Providence and exploring the many opportunities it has to offer!
