With Prom approaching, the hunt to find the perfect dress is on. Prom dresses can be expensive, but Centreville High School and the Fair Oaks Classroom on the Mall are having their annual Prom Dress Shop that is completely free for all students, not just FCPS students.
The shop takes place in the modular classrooms at Centreville High School and there are spaces where you can try on the dresses.
The shop started in 2006 when Centreville High School and Fair Oaks Classroom on the Mall students collaborated and started collecting dresses to unite their community service and fashion interests.
It is currently led by Miranda Schick who is a marketing teacher at Centreville High School.
From personal experience, I went on Sunday, March 1st. The ladies running it were very nice and welcoming. You walk into the shop, sign in, and then you are free to just browse around and try on as many dresses as you want.
Most of the dresses are organized by sizes, but there are some misplaced here and there. They had a pretty good variety of dresses with some newer and some older styles
You will have to show a student ID or other school identification when you arrive. They also offer accessories at no cost.
Dresses and accessories that are lightly used can be donated by anyone and dropped off at the Centreville High School Main Office, which is open from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. You can also donate during shop hours.
There is one more weekend to shop for a prom dress at Centreville High School this year:
Friday, April 4, 5-8 pm
Saturday, April 5, 2-5 pm
Sunday, April 6, 1-4 pm
