




Falls Church High School’s victory in the district volleyball championship against Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is a testament to their hard work and dedication. The team’s commitment to their practices and putting in the work really paid off. Their relentless effort and determination truly showed through in every practice throughout the season.
It’s incredible to see how their dedication and perseverance led them to this well-deserved victory. The team showed nothing short of intense focus. Everyday, no matter the conditions, they showed up ready to give it their all. From early morning drills to late night scrimmages they left no stone unturned in their pursuit of excellence. The coaches pushed them to their limits ensuring that they owned their skills and built strong teamwork.
Leading into district playoffs practices looked a little different but stayed around the same dynamic. Elaina Nguyen (12) said, “ In the regular season we did a lot of team stuff, six on six but going into playoffs we definitely did a lot of position work and picked apart each team to figure out what we needed to work on.”
The players’ determination and unwavering commitment during these practices were key factors in their success. They truly embodied the spirit of hard work and dedication setting the stage for their incredible victory. Captain Charlotte Nguyen(12) said, “As a team we felt good. Coming back the next day getting a bunch of praise and all the awards felt really good. Definitely felt more connected.”
The mindset and mental state of the players were absolutely focused and determined. They approached the game with a winning mentality leaving behind any doubts or distractions. The players were mentally prepared, visualizing success and staying positive throughout the match. They supported each other, maintaining a strong team spirit and boosting morale despite any pressure or challenges they faced; they remained composed and resilient, never losing sight of their goal. they’re unwavering belief in themselves and their abilities played a crucial role.
To end their season off with the highlight of the incredible achievements surrounding the coach and the team’s excitement. After FC led the varsity team to a victory in the district championship, head coach Belinda Kim was awarded District Coach of the Year. Coach Kim’s leadership and guidance were instrumental to the team’s success. Her players and coaching staff played a big part in the award itself. “I have five total assistants and they help a lot. And the girls, you know, they worked hard. So I think that helps too, but I give the credits to the girls who worked hard,” said Coach Kim.
As the final play happened, the players on the bench erupted in pure joy and excitement. They celebrated their hard fights with cheers, high fives, and hugs. The atmosphere was electric, filled with a sense of accomplishment and pride. This unforgettable moment will forever be etched in the memories serving as a reminder of the remarkable journey and the sweet taste of victory.
Lillie Bell (11) said, “As a team we felt pretty accomplished. That was the main goal since day one so achieving that goal was pretty great.”
