Halo 2 impacted the gaming world in a big way by being one of the first FPS (first-person shooter video game) multiplayer games.

Halo 2 was released all over the world on November 9, 2004. Game company Bungie made Halo 2. Halo 2 is the second game in the Halo series, the first being Halo Combat Evolved and the third one being Halo 3. On November 11, 2014 after Halo 2’s ten years anniversary, Bungie decided to remake Halo 2 with better graphics. They called it Halo 2 Anniversary.

Older gamers said that in 2004 there weren’t many good FPS  multiplayer games. Before,  in most multiplayer games, a player was the host who chose the game type. In Halo 2, and most games since, players choose a type of game they want to play and the game matches them with the players of their own ability on a randomly chosen map.  

Robert Nicol (9) said, “Halo 2 made what online multiplayer games are today.”

Halo 2 has sold over 8 million copies in the US making it the best selling original Xbox game of all time. Halo 2 is one of the reasons people fall in love with the Halo series, which made Xbox gain more players. 

Halo 2 made the Xbox gaming system more popular because at that time the number one console was PlaySation. Since one of the best FPS games was Halo 2, but you could only play Halo 2 on Xbox, you had to get an Xbox which also boosted Xbox sales. 

“Halo 2 was one of the reasons I got an Xbox in the first place,” said Enderson Baires Cortez(9).

Halo 2 won multiple awards at the 8th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, like “Console Game of the Year”, “Console First-Person Action game of the Year”, “Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay” and “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design”, as well as nominations for “Outstanding Innovation in Console Gaming”.

If you’re a fan of FPS games you’re going to love this game. Even if you’re not into FPS games you should check it out.
