As the weather cools and leaves start to fall, people are excited to bring out their warm, layered clothes for this season. This year’s fall and winter trends are all about mixing comfort and style. From layered outfits to chunky boots to warm colors, comfort leads the way. Whether dressing for warmth, style, or a mix of both, 2024’s looks are perfect for staying “cool” and “cozy.”
Layering has taken over this season, blending self expression with practicality. It’s about more than just staying warm; each layer brings a chance to express personal style.
“I mainly think that people are starting to get into layering outfits with accessories and clothes, not just because of the coolder season but mostly because of its style,” said Nicole Hinojosa (9).
Each layer, whether it’s a scarf, jacket, or sweater- adds something unique to the overall look, allowing people to try different colors and styles while staying cozy with fashion. Layering also gives people flexibility with the unpredictable weather, so they can add or remove items as temperatures change throughout the day.
Puffer jackets are a top choice for layering this year. They are warm, easy to wear, and look great with just about anything.

“A puffer jacket and hoodies can be the best to layer an outfit,” said Hinojosa, “because of how warm and perfectly layered it can make an outfit look.”
For those who want both comfort and style, these jackets add just the right amount of volume and warmth.
Oversized hoodies are another must have, loved for their simple, cozy style. It’s easy to throw on an oversized hoodie with leggings for a look that’s laid back stylish.
“Nowadays, people can simply style them by wearing tight fitted leggings,” Hinojosa noted, “and I agree because it makes an outfit not extra-looking but also cozy.”
Scarves and beanies are also back, bringing a classic cozy vibe to any outfit. These classic accessories make it easy to add warmth and personality to any outfit.
“I’m excited because I’ve always been a fan of scarves and beanie,” said Hinojosa, “It’s easy to style an everyday outfit with them, and in addition to them is that they keep me warm.”
While some dress for warmth, others are all about style even if it means facing the cold.
“I have for many years sacrificed my warmth for my style. Some people can put up with the cold and some can’t, but regardless, people make amazing outfits,” said Kely Tellez (11).
For those who like a daring look, mini skirts with tights are a popular choice. Pairing skirts with tights is a fun way to mix cozy and bold style.
“I think they are so cute, and I love them,” shared Tellez. “Many people have also tried wearing shorts or long skirts with their style, and they rock it.”
For people who love a comfy look, accessories are a key part of the season. Jacqueline Phuong (9) shares that mixing and matching the right layers is what makes an outfit truly fall-ready. “For me, mixing different clothes and over layering will complete a fall, comfy, and cozy look. Such as jeans skirts over tights, heeled boots, thick scarves, and layered tops or autumn colored sweat suits.”
This approach to layering not only keeps you warm but lets you create an outfit that feels personal and unique. Layering items with fall colors; like rich brows, dark reds and dark oranges, can make any outfit feel more in tune with the season.
“From someone’s overall fashion taste, it can reflect the person they are,” Phuong said.

This season’s trends offer something for everyone, whether you’re all about staying cozy or don’t mind a little chill to look good. From chunky boots to colorful scarves and fall toned sweaters, there are so many ways to layer and accessorize and show off your own style. 2024’s fall and winter fashion is all about feeling both cool and cozy. With endless layering options, people can mix and match pieces that let them stay comfortable, look stylish, and fully enjoy the season.
