Songs of a Lost World by The Cure: A beautifully mournful ride through Robert Smith’s mind after a 16 year hiatus. On the 1st of November, 2024, Songs of a Lost World was finally released, capturing the attention of old The Cure enjoyers and many new fans. I think it is safe to say that Robert Smith has not lost one bit of what first made The Cure popular; beautiful song-writing, great abstract and heart-wrenching lyrics, and amazingly unique vocals. While this album has many slow cuts, adding to the mournfulness of its lyrical themes, there are many energetic and strong tracks as well. The energetic tracks can be attributed to drummer, Jason Cooper, and bassist, Simon Gallup, who both are great musicians that add the energy and force to tracks such as, “A Fragile Thing.” Songs of a Lost World is a greatly strong comeback for this legendary band, and it is a must-listen for any music fans in 2024.
