The Swim and Dive team had its first meet of the 2015-16 winter season against Edison on December 4 at the Providence Rec Center. Our Jaguars competed great with both the boys and girls getting the win, meaning both teams are starting off their seasons at 1-0. Both wins were quite decisive—the girls earned a score of 194 to Edison’s 121 and the boys got a score of 207 to Edison’s 96, indicating a good start to a promising year of swim and dive.

Both teams will be trying to pick up from last season’s great showing as five of their captains made it to states. Last year’s girls performed well as they placed third in the state in the 200 meter free relay. The girls’ team also broke two relay records—the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. Last year’s boys broke the 200 medley relay school record. The Jaguars also had three athletes qualifying in two individual events and two relays, the maximum number allowed at states.

There were many highlights at the meet with Edison.  Some of the best include the fact that the boys swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the dive competition.  The girls’ swim team broke the 200 meter individual medley record.  Achievements like these suggest another great and overachieving year for our Jaguars this season, building on the success of last year.

Falls Church’s next meet is this Friday, December 18 against Wakefield and Jefferson at the Audrey Moore Rec Center in Annandale.  The meet starts at 6 p.m.  After an impressive start in their first meet, it’s fair to say we can expect another great record-breaking season.
