The Miami Dolphins playoff hopes last for another week as they defeated the New York Jets 34-13. The Dolphins improve to 9-5 while the New York Jets have fallen to 4-10 and having once again, a season without making the playoffs since 2010.

The first quarter started out optimistic for the Jets as new starting quarterback Bryce Petty hooked up with Robby Anderson for a 40 yard touchdown. The Dolphins responded with 2 TD passes from Matt Moore with a 1 yard touchdown pass to Dion Sims, and another one to Kenny Stills. The Jets could only muster a 48 yard field goal by Nick Folk as the score by halftime was 14-10. The 3rd quarter was arguably the best performance by the Dolphins but disappointing for the Jets. Jets punter Lac Edwards had his punt attempt blocked by Free Safety Walt Aikens, who returned the blocked punt for an 11 yard touchdown return. The Dolphins quickly added up the score with another one yard touchdown to Dion Sims and a 66 yard catch and run score by wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The Jets disappointment could only grow further as Bryce Petty suffered a chest injury near the beginning of the 4th quarter, forcing the Jets to bring in quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has been having a lackluster and underwhelming season with the Jets as Geno Smith was out for the season with an ACL Tear, and Christian Hackenberg was inactive during the game. Fitzpatrick couldn’t capitalize inside the Dolphins territory, failing to convert on a 4th and 2, rather than taking the field goal. On the next 2 drives, The Dolphins and the Jets punted back and forth and the Jets finally scored their first and only points of the second half, thanks to a 36 yard field goal from Nick Folk changing the lead to 34-13 in Miami’s favor. The Dolphins got the ball back but quickly punted back to the Jets. The Jets final drive of the game seemed promising, until Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a game ending interception to cornerback Tony Lippet, who had his 2nd interception of the game.

Matt Moore had an outstanding game with 236 yards and 4 touchdown passes as he will travel to New Era Stadium next week to face the Buffalo Bills to keep the Dolphins playoff chances high while the Jets travel to New England in hopes to salvage this lost season and hope that Bryce Petty will be ready to play by next week.
