With the NFL offseason already in full swing, Multiple teams will be attempting to be retaining their top players, one notable player is Kirk Cousins, quarterback for the Washington Redskins who’s future with the team is currently up in the air.

Kirk Cousins has his good moments and his bad moments, But not everyone thinks that he should warrant a huge salary, pointing out his inconsistency and costing the Redskins a playoff spot in week 17 by throwing an interception at a crucial time. Despite his shortcomings, Kirk Cousins has had an excellent season by throwing for 4,917 yards and 25 touchdowns, and breaking various personal and team records he had set the last year.

The high points of Kirk Cousins 2016-2017 season include, Throwing for a career high 458 yards against the Cincinnati, Bengals in week 9, defeating the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, a place that the Redskins usually don’t have success with by throwing for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns, Earning the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for his tremendous 4 game stretch, and leading the Redskins to an 8-7-1 record, their first back to back winning season since 1996-1997. Because of his great season, Cousins was elected to his first ever Pro Bowl. The lows for Kirk Cousins include,  Not getting back into the playoffs after all the hype was expected for the team this year, Losing 2 nail biters against the Dallas Cowboys, and having one of his worst games of the season against the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals.

Kirk Cousins needs to work on being able to thrive in free agency. The Redskins will most likely give Kirk Cousins the exclusive franchise tag, as they won’t want to lose their first quarterback who has been consistently good, But if I was G.M Scot McCloughan, I would convince Kirk Cousins to sign a couple million dollars less, as the team should focus on improving their abysmal run defense, and try to retain Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon along with gaining some new weapons for the team in free agency as that could be the difference between the Redskins ending up 3rd in their division, and a shiny Super Bowl trophy.
