If you didn’t know by now, with the majority of your teachers constantly reminding you and counting down, whether it’s written on their whiteboards, or it’s them telling you before you start your lesson, or if it’s by Ms. Sherman announcing it every morning on the loudspeaker and trying to get you to go the morning reviews, the SOLs are quickly approaching.  Yes!  How exciting!  It’s finally that time of the year again.

SOL stands for Standards of Learning, and is a testing system for Virginia public schools to show what students should know and should be able to do at the end of each grade in English, Math, History, and Science. They will be taking place throughout the end of May and the beginning of June. These tests are very important, which is the reason why teachers are always reminding you and telling you every morning to go to the morning reviews. These reviews are every day, and are from 6:50-7:10 am, or after school on late bus days. Tuesday’s is History and Math, and Wednesday’s are English and Science.

The dates for the SOLs have been set, and it’s important to know when they are and which one comes first so you can start getting ready for them. Here are the dates for the SOLs:

Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21: English Reading; Friday, May 22: Biology; Tuesday, May 26: Science Honors; Wednesday, May 27: Chemistry and Geosystems; Thursday, May 28: Geometry; Friday, May 29: Algebra 1; Monday June 1: History Honors and ESOL Biology; Tuesday, June 2: Algebra 2; Wednesday June 3: US & VA and ESOL Biology; Thursday June 4: World History II and US/VA Honors; Friday June 6: World History I.

Retakes will be taking place in the little theater from Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 10.  The dates are set, which means you should probably get to studying soon. And a reminder, don’t forget to go to the morning reviews every day from 6:50-7:10, or after school on late bus days.  C’mon Jags, let’s attack the SOLs!
