Growing Awareness During No-Shave November

Every year when the month of November rolls around, people generally begin to think about topics such as Thanksgiving, or Black Friday, but a relatively new trend that goes on during the month of November, that not many people take into account is the event of No-Shave November.
No-Shave November is a whole month designated for guys to not shave their beards and or facial hair. According to the No-Shave November official website, the purpose of No-Shave November “is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.” The website explains that you should “donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming, to educate as well as donate to the cause of cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.”
So you might be asking yourself how did No-Shave November come to fruition? Well, back in 2004 a group of about 30 men gathered together to grow out only their moustaches for an entire month to raise awareness for prostate cancer, a serious issue that a lot of men struggle with, as well as depression in men. This group eventually formed the Movember (combination of moustache and November) Foundation, which since 2004 when they assembled, to 2015, has raised about $710 million. This later grew into the worldwide phenomenon of No-Shave November in our present day.
This year at Falls Church, one of our own faculty members, Mr. Johnson (Physical Education) is participating in the movement. When asked about his thoughts regarding No-Shave November Mr. Johnson explains, “During No Shave November, I like using products that I never usually get to use such as Gillette in order to keep my face smooth.” Furthermore, Mr. Johnson states that his “wife also appreciates No-Shave November as it keeps my face non-rough.”
In summary, No-Shave November is a very beneficial event that funds those who are battling with prostate cancer. We hope to see all sorts of people from Falls Church and beyond grow out their facial hair.
