Hillary Clinton: Hillary for America
March 2, 2016
The current nationwide leader among the Democratic party’s candidates for president in the 2016 election is Hillary Clinton. She is well known for being the wife of former president Bill Clinton. She served as the 67th United States Secretary of State and was a U.S. Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009. Clinton has some experience in the White House be- cause she was the first lady from 1993 to 2001.
As First Lady of the United States, her major initiative, the Clinton healthcare plan of 1993, failed to reach a vote in Congress. In 1997 and 1999, she played a leading role in advocating the creation of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, the Adoption and Safe Families Act and the Foster Care Independence Act. Hillary Clinton is the favorite to win the Democratic primary and her experience won’t make it easy for her opponents.
Clinton is a strong supporter of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) rights, and will con- tinue to support the role these communities play in the field of politics.
She also advocates strongly for gun control and wants to limit the availability of firearms because of the numerous mass shootings in recent years. If elected, Clinton would be the first female president in United States.
