With the school year just starting all the new freshmen have come in. Now entering high school, the freshmen are finding different ways to get involved with school. A big way to get more involved is to get into the sports here at Falls Church. There are many talented freshmen athletes that have joined the fall teams such as Cheerleading, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, and Volleyball. I had the opportunity to sit and talk to some of these student athletes.

What made you want to try out for football?
My uncle is the one who really influenced me try out for football and just try new things.
Do you have any rituals before a game?
I like to listen to classic 90’s basically before a game. I mainly like to listen to Michael Jackson.
How do you think your team will do this season?
I think we’re going to do well this season. We got speed on the line. We got a lot of skilled players. All we have to do is work on our line and our blocking skills and we’ll be alright.
Are you passionate about football?
Yes I’m definitely passionate about football. My passion started when Eli Manning was starting out in my favorite team, the New York Giants, and I hope to someday play alongside him and maybe even get better than him.
Ashley Rivera (9), Volleyball
What made you want to try out for volleyball?
In the 8th grade I thought I should be more athletic and well-rounded so I started to get into volleyball when I was at Poe so I went to play it after school and I went to volleyball clinics and ended up trying out for the team.
How do you get over getting nervous about representing the whole school?
I usually try to get mad at pretty much anything, enough to forget that I’m nervous so that I can show my skill and that they’re good.
Do you have any rituals before a game?
“We all get together and talk about what we’re going to do before a game and when someone is about to serve we all chant their name.
How do you think your team will do this season?
“Honestly I don’t think we’re going to do that bad because the JV and varsity team says that we’re a better team than the other freshman teams and so far we are undefeated.
