Let the Advice Fairy Help You Out
October 25, 2016
From making your first touchdown in your first high school game to failing the quar- ter exam, freshman year is all about experienc- es. Freshmen year is the when have all these new experiences with friends, grades, relationships, and drama. Sometimes it seems like you’re on top of the world, but other times it seems you like your life has no more meaning. I had the chance to talk to some freshmen about their struggles and worries about this school year.
I’m a freshman and I feel like I’m not fitting in. How can I fit in?
Everyone in one point in their life feels like they don’t fit in. Being a freshman is diffi- cult, because you are in a new territory. It seems like you are surrounded by complete strangers and can’t figure out how to act. Even though it sounds cheesy, you should just be yourself. You will find people that will make you feel like you fit in. Everyone is different from each other, so never change yourself to be accepted. Soon, you will find those people to call friends.
How can I choose the right group of friends?
It all depends on your morals, and the person that you are. It’s not really about choos- ing a group of friends, but making friends natu- rally. You will encounter people that have com-
mon interests and hobbies or people that are totally opposite from you. You will become friends with these people. Even though it seems they will stay forever, some might leave you. Not all of your friends will stick with you throughout high school. How- ever, naturally you’ll have a good group of friends.
I’m kind of anti-social. How can I put myself out there?
Honestly, go to every social event that you can attend. For example, Home- coming is coming up soon. Who cares if you don’t have a date? Go with a group of friends and make some memories. High school is where most memories are made in teenage years. So make the most of it and go have some clean fun.
High school will bring its challenges and rewards. The best advice anyone can give you is to be yourself and study. These next four years are to prepare you to become the person you were meant to be. Never give up and never let people get the best of you. We can all succeed, it’s just our own motiva- tion that can get the best of us. Good luck to all of you freshmen, and may your high school experience be memorable.
